This policy explains how CelebPedia uses cookies and similar browser storage, why we use them, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our privacy policy, which explains how we handle personal information more broadly.
Cookies are small text files that a website can store in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage, which keeps a small amount of data in your browser without sending it with every request. We keep our use of both as limited as we reasonably can.
How we approach cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies so the site works and stays secure.
Everything else — including advertising — runs only after you accept it in our consent banner.
We do not run analytics or tracking scripts on this website.
We do not sell your personal information.
Essential cookies
These are set by our own site and are needed for basic functions. They are not used for advertising or profiling.
celebpedia-session — identifies your browsing session on our server so that pages, forms and preferences work correctly. It is a first-party cookie, stored for up to two hours, and marked so that scripts cannot read it.
XSRF-TOKEN — a security token that protects forms and requests on the site from cross-site request forgery attacks. It is a first-party cookie with a short lifetime.
Because the site cannot function securely without these, they cannot be switched off through our banner. You can still block them in your browser, although parts of the site may then stop working.
Security and delivery
Our website and images are delivered through a content delivery network and security provider, which may set a short-lived security cookie (for example a Cloudflare bot-management cookie). Its purpose is to distinguish genuine visitors from automated traffic and to protect the site from abuse. It is not used to build a profile of you.
Your consent choice
When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept or reject advertising cookies. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage under the key celebpedia.cookie-consent. This is not a cookie: it stays on your device, it is not sent to us with every request, and it is only used to remember what you chose so that we do not ask again.
It remains there until you clear your browser's site data. If you reject, the advertising code is simply not loaded. If you accept, advertising scripts are loaded on your next page view.
Advertising cookies
CelebPedia is free and supported by advertising. After you accept, advertising may be served by third-party networks, including Google, and those vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to:
measure how often an advertisement is shown and how it performs;
limit how many times you see the same advertisement;
where you have consented, show advertising that is more relevant to you based on your visits to this and other websites.
These cookies are set by the advertising vendors, not by us, and their use is governed by those vendors' own privacy policies. If you reject the banner or opt out later, you will still see advertising, but it will not be personalised in that way.

What we do not use
No analytics or behavioural tracking scripts of our own.
No social media tracking buttons or embedded players that set cookies when a page loads.
No cross-site tracking by CelebPedia. Advertising cookies are set by the vendors described above, and only after you consent.
If we ever add a privacy-focused analytics tool, we will update this page before doing so.
Managing cookies and changing your mind
You can change your choice at any time:
Clear site data for this website in your browser settings. Our banner will appear again on your next visit and you can choose differently.
Block or delete cookies for all sites in your browser settings. Most browsers also let you block third-party cookies entirely.
Use the opt-out tools listed above to stop personalised advertising from participating vendors.
Blocking essential cookies may break parts of the site, such as forms. Blocking advertising cookies does not affect your ability to read CelebPedia.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We do not sell or share your personal information. Because advertising scripts only run after you accept the banner, selecting "Reject" is enough to stop them being loaded. We do not currently process browser Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals as a separate mechanism, but if that changes we will say so on this page.
Cookies in the mobile app
The CelebPedia Android app does not use browser cookies in the way the website does. It stores your preferences, such as favourites and theme choice, locally on your device, and app advertising relies on your device advertising identifier rather than browser cookies. Details of how app data is handled are in our privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if our use of cookies changes. The current version is always published on this page with an updated date.
