Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains what information CelebPedia collects when you visit our website or use our Android app, why we collect it, and what choices you have. We have written it in plain language on purpose: you should not need a law degree to understand what happens to your data.
CelebPedia is a free, advertising-supported encyclopedia. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect personal information simply because you read our pages.
Who we are
CelebPedia is an independent publication that publishes celebrity biographies, entertainment news and related reference pages. For anything in this policy, including requests about your personal data, you can reach us at [email protected].
Information you give us
You can use the entire website without registering. We only receive personal information when you choose to send it to us, for example when you:
email us a correction, question or complaint;
report a bug or send feedback about the app;
contact us about advertising, licensing or partnerships.
In those cases we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to answer you, to verify a correction, or to manage the request you sent. We do not add you to mailing lists and we do not sell or trade your contact details.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, our servers record basic technical information when pages are requested. This typically includes your IP address, browser and device type, the page you requested, the site you arrived from, and the time of the request.
We use this information to keep the site secure, to diagnose faults, to prevent abuse, and to understand aggregate traffic — for example, which pages are popular. It is not used to build a personal profile of you.
What we do not collect
No account registration, passwords or profile data.
No payment or financial details — the website is free.
No precise location data and no access to your contacts, photos or files.
No special category data such as health, religion or political opinions.
We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies and local storage
Cookies are small text files that a website can store in your browser. We keep our use of them as small as possible, and we group them into two categories.
Essential
These are needed for the site to work properly, for example a session cookie that protects forms from cross-site request forgery and remembers basic state between page loads. Essential cookies cannot be switched off through our consent banner because the site would stop working without them.
Consent-based
Advertising cookies and similar technologies are only loaded after you accept them. When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept or reject. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage on your own device, so we can respect it on your next visit. If you reject, the advertising code is not loaded.
You can change your mind at any time by clearing cookies and site data for this website in your browser settings. The banner will appear again and you can choose differently.
Advertising and third-party vendors
To keep CelebPedia free, we display advertising. Ads may be served by third-party advertising networks, including Google. Those vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to measure ad performance and, where you have consented, to show advertising that is more relevant to you based on your visits to this and other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can learn more and manage your preferences here:
Google Ads Settings — control personalised advertising across Google services.
aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu — opt out of personalised advertising from many third-party vendors.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before advertising cookies are set, and you can reject them without losing access to our content. If you reject or opt out, you will still see advertising, but it will not be personalised using those cookies.
We do not control third-party cookies directly. Their use is governed by the privacy policies of the vendors that set them, and we encourage you to review those policies.
Analytics
We do not currently use third-party analytics or tracking scripts. If we introduce a privacy-focused analytics tool in the future, we will update this policy before doing so and it will not be used to identify individual readers.
Service providers and international transfers
We rely on a small number of service providers to run the site: hosting and content delivery infrastructure, an object storage provider for images, and email delivery for messages you send us. These providers process data on our behalf and are only given what they need to provide their service.
Some of these providers operate servers in multiple countries, so your information may be processed outside your own country, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep information
Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, after which they are deleted or aggregated. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to handle your request and to keep a record of corrections. Cookie preferences stay in your browser until you clear your browser data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
ask what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy;
ask us to correct inaccurate information;
ask us to delete information we no longer need;
object to or restrict certain processing;
withdraw consent for advertising cookies at any time;
complain to your local data protection authority.
These rights are available under laws including the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act. We do not discriminate against anyone who exercises their privacy rights.
To make a request, email [email protected] with enough detail for us to understand what you are asking for. Because we hold very little personal data, we may ask you to confirm a detail so we can be sure we are acting on the right information.
Children
CelebPedia is a general-audience reference site and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
Our pages link to external sources, official websites and app stores. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, and we encourage you to read their policies before providing personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. The revised version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date. If a change is significant, we will make it clear on the page rather than changing it quietly.
Contact us
Questions, requests or complaints about privacy can be sent to [email protected]. We aim to respond to privacy requests promptly, and we treat requests about personal safety or legal matters as a priority.
